Spinal Cord Injury Accident Questions

What are the primary causes of spinal cord injuries in the work place?

Construction workers are the most likely to sustain a spinal cord injury due to the extremely dangerous nature of their work. Other sources of spinal cord injury in the workplace include being hit by a falling object or sustaining injuries due to defective equipment.

The most common types of construction accidents involve falls, including falls on debris, falling through unprotected openings on job sites, as well as falling from scaffolds and ladders.

Scaffolding accidents often occur because of faulty scaffolds. These accidents could be prevented by providing workers with lifelines, lanyards or railing to prevent them from impacting with the ground in the event of a scaffold failure.

Ladder accidents occur when ladders with worn feet are used and slip out, or when the wrong type of ladder is given to a worker, causing it to fail.

Falls also occur because of debris and poor housekeeping at job sites. General Contractors are required by law to keep walkways clear of debris, but all too often this rule is ignored.
